Before comparing sizes, consider shape. A tall painting and a wide painting with a similar surface area can feel entirely different on the same wall.
Landscape proportions
A wide format can relate naturally to a sofa, sideboard or long dining table. It creates a horizontal line across the wall. Check that the artwork leaves enough space around nearby doors, lamps or shelving; the furniture’s width is only one part of the decision.
Portrait proportions
A taller format can work within a narrower area or draw attention to a vertical feature. Test its height as well as its width. A slim wall may accept the width of a painting while still feeling crowded by its height.
Square proportions
A square offers equal emphasis in both directions. It can work as a single focal piece or as part of a measured group. When comparing it with a rectangle, test the actual outer shape rather than assuming an equivalent area will give an equivalent effect.
Different ratios may mean different compositions
A landscape version should not automatically be treated as a stretched portrait. Elements may be repositioned, extended or cropped. Review the images for the exact product and option you intend to order. Similarly titled works may be related compositions rather than identical paintings.
Use the product page to make the distinction
Size and frame selections generally describe options for the product you are viewing. A link to another artwork opens a separate product with its own images and specifications. Compare both pages before deciding which version suits the space.
Mark the proposed shape on your wall, then share the measurements and product links with our team if you would like help comparing them. For several smaller works, explore the gallery wall collection.
